How to play Type & Stars
Type & Stars is a browser party game for 2 or more people. One phone goes around the room, everyone answers 8 quick questions, and every pair’s chemistry score is revealed on the spot. Only one phone is needed: there’s no room code, and nobody has to join on their own device. It’s free for up to 4 people, with no app and no sign-up.
In the same room
- Open typestars.app on one phone and tap Start a party round.
- The first person types a nickname and picks their birth month and day, then answers 8 questions. It takes about a minute.
- Pass the phone. The previous person’s answers are already put away, so nobody sees them.
- When everyone has played, tap Reveal every match. Every pair appears, ranked by score, from Best Match at the top to Most Electric (love–hate) at the bottom.
- Tap Hand out everyone’s card. Each person gets their own shareable card with a room title, such as Soulmate or Crowd Favourite, and their best match of the night.
When someone isn’t in the room
On the roster, tap Invite someone who isn’t here and send the link in any chat app. They answer the same 8 questions on their own phone, and their result appears in your roster by itself, marked as remote. People in the room and people far away can play the same round.
When it’s just the two of you
Take the 12-question test, then tap Send a match link. When the other person finishes, they see your score right away and can send it back to you.
On your own
The quick test has 12 questions and takes about 90 seconds. The full test has 32 real-life questions on a five-point scale, about five minutes, and ends with a user manual: your strengths, and how each trait people call a flaw can be put to use. If you sit near the middle on something, the report says so instead of forcing a label.
How the score works
The chemistry score reads two things only: four personality dimensions from your answers, and your zodiac element (fire, earth, air or water), from your birth month and day. The same answers and the same birthdays always give the same score. It’s a conversation starter, not a verdict.
What’s free
A full round is free for up to 4 people, including the reveal and everyone’s cards. Bigger rounds and the deep report for each pair are part of the full version.
Privacy
There is no account. Names and birthdays stay on your phone, and we never ask for your birth year. We count anonymous events, such as “a round of 5 finished”, to see whether this is worth building. If someone joins from afar, their nickname, type and star sign are encrypted on their phone with a key that exists only in the invite link, and our server deletes the scrambled text after 24 hours. Read the privacy page.
Questions
Do I need to download an app?
No. It runs in the browser on any phone or computer.
How many people can play?
Two is enough to reveal a match. Up to 4 is free, and the full version has no cap.
Does everyone need their own phone?
Not in the same room: one phone is the whole idea. Friends joining from elsewhere use their own.
Is this a real personality test?
No. It’s a simplified popular-psychology quiz, and the zodiac is used as a personality label. It’s built to get people talking.
